I admit, personally I'm not the biggest Barbara Mandrell fan. I can only name a couple of her songs off the top of my head. But growing up, my parents and my older sister were fans of Barbara Mandrell and Barbara Mandrell lyrics. I remember her and the other Mandrell sisters being on Hee Haw many times. That was a great show.
Barbara Mandrell was born on Christmas Day 1948 in Houston, Texas. She is the oldest daughter of Irby and Mary
Mandrell. Barbara begain demonstrating her talent in music at a very young age. She started playing an accordion by the age of five years old and then the steel guitar when she was just nine years old. In 1960, she was recruited by Joe Maphis to play in his Las Vegas show,
where she was promoted as the "Sweetheart of Steel." This led
to a few television appearances and before long, at just twelve years old, Barbara Mandrell was invited to go on tour with the legendary Johnny Cash. This tour gave Barbara the opportunity to perform with some of the biggest stars in country music, such as June Carter, Patsy Cline, and
George Jones. It was after that tour that Barbara Mandrells father, Irby, put together a Mandrell Family Band with Barbara and the other Mandrell sisters.
